But this isn't a asyncronous random matchmaking invasion, but more of a deliberate direct one. Players can join matches that occurred in the map's instances via attacking (or attempting to enter a teleport gate to that map/sector coordinate) which causes all players within that map to be thrown into a defensive mode and spawn their units to defend. But then bad network connections etc would really ruin that experience.Ī game I can give as a example to reinforcements and invasion would be the MMORTS Shattered Galaxy from the year 2000s. In the case of Dragon Ball universe, especially Xenoverse type of universe, you could use some sort of mechanic to make battles more engaging, like for instance Bosses calls for help and other players joins to be your rivals or villains, which in part provides a 'dynamic' difficulty curve of some sort. Which is why the best you can 'use' for invasion mechanic, is like Resident Evil 6's alternative game mode where you invade a host's game as a monster (was a interesting concept but fell flat on it's face with bad execution), because you are restricted to the host's limitations rather than bringing your own to them. You wouldn't want a age of empires game where multiplayer session can start and end in the middle of gameplay right? With 56kbps dial up connections and such.ĭragon Ball as a universe, isn't really much of a hostile sort of environment in most games where invasion is a 'mechanic' that can be used, nor would it have any appeal if the game does not have a reward and punishment system (like say Dark Souls has you lose souls, etc.). ![]() In older games, invasion and summoning was more or less a gimmick or such and traditional methods were preferred by game developers due to the technological limitation of the world at that time. ![]() Or you wait at a screen like in MMO FPS and other matchmakers to wait for a instance to open, then start playing.ĭark Souls was the first game (actually Demons' Souls uses it firstly) to do invasions so to speak on a global scale in the game industry that was a mechanic that people take note of. In traditional manners you either require a server or use a global matchmaking menu and either just join a room with other players and deal with limited scenarios and load in maps and environments in order to actually start playing.
